PRESS RELEASE: Make Your Home –eSmart! Rehabilitation Hospital Offers Home Accessibility Workshops

The Helen Hayes Hospital Center for Rehabilitation Technology is hosting a series of “Make Your Home e-Smarter” workshops. The programs are designed for anyone interested in learning more about accessible e-smart homes (electronically smart homes), including patients, family members, care givers and healthcare professionals, who may be eligible to earn continuing education credits.

The hospital’s assistive technology specialists, along with guest contractors with experience in home automation and accessible design, will be presenting. Participants will learn how individuals with disabilities and seniors can benefit from the application of accessible design principles, combined with home automation technology, to make the home environment more usable.

Following is a detailed list of upcoming programs.

  • Thursday, January 16 – Topic: Bed Controllers, Lifts & Bathroom Access
    • Monday, March 24 – Topic: Telephone Access, Remote Cameras, intercoms
  • Monday, May 19 – Topic: Alternative home automation control via wheelchair, tablet, computer, smartphone & more

All workshops take place in the Smart Apartment at Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw, New York. The formal presentation will take place from 3:30 to 5:00 pm, with time for hands-on exploration from 5:00 – 6:00 pm.
