SUMMER 2015 ADAPTED SPORTS & RECREATION SCHEDULE AT HELEN HAYES HOSPITAL

This year’s summer adapted sports and recreation activities are getting into full swing at Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw, New York. These adaptive events, presented by the physical rehabilitation hospital’s Adapted Sports and Recreation Program, provide the opportunity for individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities to participate in a large variety of sports and recreational activities on the hospital campus and beyond.

The summer 2015 Adapted Sports and Recreation schedule is as follows:
Saturday, June 6 – Rowing – Rockland Lake State Park
Wednesday, June 10 – Softball – Helen Hayes Hospital
Tuesday, June 16 – Rock Climbing – Valhalla, NY
Tuesday, June 23, July 21 – Handcycling – Rockland Lake State Park
Monday August 10 & 24 and Saturday, June 27 – Fishing – Lake Hessian, Bear Mountain
Tuesday, July 7, August 4 – Kayaking – Stony Point, NY
Tuesday, July 21 – Handcycling – Rockland Lake State Park
Tuesday July 28 – Waterskiing – Sandy Hook, CT

The Adapted Sports and Recreation Program at HHH is a four-season program that provides access to and education about adaptive sports and recreation activities for individuals of a wide range of abilities. The program is open to both former patients of the hospital as well as individuals with disabilities within the community. Adapted activities offered during the year include gardening, handcycling, skiing, rowing, sailing, kayaking, rock climbing, softball, basketball, yoga, therapeutic horseback riding, and more.
