Helen Hayes Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of Dennis Borrelli to the position of Senior Safety Consultant. In his new position, Dennis will oversee the hospital’s Safety Department and direct campus-wide operations that ensure the safety of all patients, staff, and visitors to the hospital.
A retired police officer and long-time volunteer firefighter, Dennis brings over 23 years of experience in law enforcement, fire prevention, and safety to the hospital. He began his career as a police officer for the Housing Units of the NYPD and Yonkers Police Department, before being assigned to the Yonkers PD’s Emergency Unit—an elite tactical rescue unit responsible for all high profile SWAT/rescue and hazardous materials incidents throughout the city. Dennis served on this specialized unit for 17 years as an operator, instructor, grants administrator, and special projects and logistic coordinator until his retirement from the force in May 2019. He joined HHH’s Safety Department as a Safety Officer in June of 2019.
Dennis has also served as a volunteer firefighter for 15 years and is currently Chief of the Valley Cottage Fire Department. He is a Rockland County Fire Instructor who trains future firefighters at the Rockland County Fire Training Center in Pomona. He is also a NYS EMT-D, an EPA Certified Hazardous Materials Technician/Specialist, and has been a member of the Rockland County Hazardous Materials team for over 10 years. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from John Jay College.
Dennis’ extensive experience and dedication to excellence in law enforcement and fire safety will be an invaluable asset to the entire hospital community. All at the hospital look forward to working with Dennis and the entire Safety Department as they ensure that the safety needs of our hospital continue to be met.
