George Zayas Joins Helen Hayes Hospital As Safety/Security Manager

Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw, NY is pleased to announce the appointment of George Zayas to the position of Safety/Security Manager. Mr. Zayas has served Rockland County for over 35 years as a law enforcement and fire and emergency services professional and will direct the hospital’s Safety Department, overseeing life safety, security and emergency management.

Mr. Zayas retired as a Detective from the Stony Point Police Department in 2015 with 30 years of law enforcement experience. During that time he served thousands of Rockland County students first as a representative of Rockland County’s D.A.R.E. substance abuse prevention education program, then a school resource officer and lastly Youth Detective.

Mr. Zayas has also been a volunteer firefighter for 35 years, serving both the Haverstraw Fire Department as a member of Lady Warren Hose Co. #5 and West Haverstraw Fire Department Volunteer Co. #2, where he served as Chief of the Department from 2010-2012. He is currently a Rockland County Deputy Fire Coordinator responsible for responding to large-scale emergencies and assisting the incident commander. In addition, he is a New York State Fire Instructor and teaches at the Rockland County Fire Training Center in Pomona.
