Helen Hayes Hospital SNF & TCU Receive 5-Star Rating From Centers For Medicare And Medicaid Services

October 31, 2018

West Haverstraw, NY – Helen Hayes Hospital announced that the specialty physical rehabilitation hospital’s Skilled Nursing Facility and Transitional Care Unit have once again received five-star ratings from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ Five-Star Quality Rating System. The hospital is happy to be recognized consistently as a top tier healthcare facility based on a high quality of patient care, staff expertise, and excellent rehabilitation outcomes.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services created its Five-Star Quality Rating System to help patients, families and caregivers in the selection of nursing facilities. Facilities are assigned an overall rating from 1 to 5, with five-star facilities designated as providing care that is much above average quality. Facilities are also given separate ratings based on three independent factors: health inspections, staffing and quality measures.

The Transitional Care Unit at Helen Hayes Hospital offers an expanded level of service to patients in need of short-term rehabilitation care before returning home. The unit is an ideal option for individuals who can benefit from intensive rehabilitation, with the goal of transitioning from hospital to home at an improved level of functioning and mobility.

The Skilled Nursing Facility offers short-term subacute rehabilitation for individuals who may not be medically able to participate in full-day, intensive therapy, such as those with orthopedic injuries. Individuals admitted to this unit may be functioning at a relatively high level, but require training to master certain tasks, such as stair climbing, before returning home.
