Hospital Seeks Volunteers For Osteoporosis Research Studies
October 10, 2013The Helen Hayes Hospital Clinical Research Center in West Haverstraw is currently conducting two clinical research studies on treatment for Osteoporosis.
Qualified participants will receive all study-related care, including physician visits, bone density and laboratory tests and study medications.
The first is a one-year study that will require participants to visit the Clinical Research Center every three months, for a total of four visits. It is studying the treatment of Osteoporosis using the medications Prolia or Reclast. To be eligible for the study, a woman must be postmenopausal, 55 years of age or older and have a diagnosis of osteoporosis. In addition, the individual must have received oral bisphosphonate therapy for osteoporosis for at least two years immediately prior to the screening visit.
The second study is examining the treatment of Osteoporosis using Prolia and Forteo. This is a three-year study that requires a visit to the Clinical Research Center every thee months, totalling twelve visits. To be eligible for the study, a woman must be postmenopausal, 45 years of age or older, have a diagnosis of osteoporosis and not currently be taking any medications for Osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis is a serious health concern worldwide. It is a preventable disease which causes weakening of the bones and a loss of bone mass, resulting in fractures and disability. The disease is expected to affect one in every two women. In both of these studies, every woman is being treated,; there are no placebo (dummy pill) treatments.
