Helen Hayes Hospital offers an array of support groups that are open to the community. The groups serve a dual purpose: they provide valuable information as well as serving as a support mechanism for individuals coping with disabling disorders. Some sessions feature guest speakers, while others follow a more informal agenda. Time is always allowed for questions and answers and for participants to share information. + Aphasia Support Group

On hiatus: Aphasia affects a person’s ability to express and understand spoken and written language. It is caused by damage to the parts of the brain that control language, by events such as stroke, traumatic brain injury or neurological disorders. Our monthly Aphasia Group seeks to help those with aphasia improve their communication with targeted tools and exercises. Meets the second Wednesday of every month in the Noyes Conference Center, 10:30 – 11:30 am. First session is free. For additional information, contact Kelly Dougherty at 845-786-4604.

+ Brain Injury Family/Survivor Support Group

Zoom Support Group: The Brain Injury Association of New York holds its Rockland County chapter family support group the second Monday of each month at 6:30 pm via Zoom. + Ostoeporosis Support & Education Group

On hiatus: Professionals from the New York State Osteoporosis Prevention and Education Program (NYSOPEP) Statewide Osteoporosis Resource Center present information about bone health, including the latest medications, nutritional guidelines, research and other important topics. Meetings are usually held on the fourth Thursday of each month in the Noyes Conference Center from 4:00 – 5:00 pm. Call 845-786-4772 to learn more about programs and dates of meetings.

+ Parkinson's Disease Support Group

On hiatus: The Parkinson’s Disease Support Group Meets the third Friday of every month, 10:30 am in the Noyes Conference Center. Whether you’ve been living with PD or have just recently been diagnosed, come and share information and learn something new. For more information, call 845-786-4321.

+ Stroke Club

On hiatus: For survivors of stroke and their families and caregivers. Meetings are held on the third Monday of every month, in the Noyes Conference Center, from 3:00-4:30pm. For information call Alyssa Chagares at 845-786-4457.

+ Spinal Cord Injury/Amputee Support Group

Phone Support Group: Wednesdays at 6:00pm. Open to individuals living with spinal cord injury and amputation, as well as their families and friends. To join the phone support group, please call 845-786-4258 at 6:00pm and use the password 1234 to enter.

On hiatus: Third Wednesday of every month, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, 2nd-floor Dining Room. Open to individuals living with SCI and amputation, their families and friends. Guest speakers and open discussions. Available via webcast. For information call Peter Gagliardo at 845-786-4950.
