Outpatient Neuropsychology

The Outpatient Neuropsychological Service is part of the Behavioral Medicine department of Helen Hayes Hospital. It provides comprehensive evaluations to assess cognitive and affective functioning following an acquired injury to the brain as a result of a traumatic brain injury or cerebral vascular accident. Evaluations are also conducted to assess cognitive changes associated with Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and other neurodegenerative disorders.

Evaluations are administered by a licensed clinical neuropsychologist. The evaluation encompasses the assessment of memory functioning, executive functioning and problem solving, attention capacity, processing speed, perception, and emotional functioning. The evaluation provides a greater level of understanding concerning the underlying cause of the cognitive deficits as well as providing recommendations to address and treat the identified symptoms.
