ADAPTED SPORTS, RECREATION & LIVING EXPO COMING UP

February 9, 2012

Helen Hayes Hospital will host an “Adapted Sports, Recreation & Living Expo” on Saturday, April 21, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the physical rehabilitation hospital in West Haverstraw. The event is free of charge and is open to the public.

This special one-day event will showcase an array of adapted sports and recreation opportunities, along with products and services designed to meet the needs of individuals with physical disabilities and seniors, as well as their family, friends and caregivers. Healthcare professionals and volunteers will also find the event to be an excellent resource for the latest information on equipment, devices and services available in the greater New York metropolitan and Hudson Valley region.

The Expo will feature an extensive exhibit fair with representatives from various businesses and organizations, including: auto and van conversions; wheelchairs and scooters; adaptive and durable medical equipment; ramps and lifts and advocacy and travel services. In addition, representatives from organizations offering adapted sports and recreational opportunities for individuals with disabilities will also be exhibiting, including: downhill skiing; adapted golf; kayaking; rowing; sailing; handcycling; horseback riding; quad rugby and others. Adapted sports equipment will also be on display.

The Expo will include a range of informational workshops. Participants will have the opportunity to enter a raffle for several grand prizes.
Matthew Castelluccio, Adapted Sports Coordinator at Helen Hayes Hospital states, “This program is an expansion of our very successful Adapted Sports & Rec Expo, which we have sponsored for several years. By bringing together organizations that service individuals with special needs, we believe the Expo will meet a great need in the area and will be well attended.”

The event is free of charge and is expected to attract wounded veterans, individuals with spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, stroke, orthopedic disabilities and other conditions, as well as seniors from throughout the New York metropolitan region. For additional information on exhibiting or attending the event, call the Helen Hayes Hospital Public Relations Office at 845-786-4225.
