Celebrating Remarkable Recoveries
September 9, 2014September is particularly special at Helen Hayes. In addition to the many exciting programs listed on our calendar, our annual Honors Assembly will be held on the 16th at 1:30pm. During this ceremony, our community, staff, patients and their families celebrate the spirit and accomplishments of all our patients.
Having worked at Helen Hayes for 24 years, so many have touched my heart and motivated my soul. All in all, my tenure at the hospital is average. Most people work here a long time because the environment here is welcoming, warm and supportive. Our staff truly cares about their patients and each other. We strive to be open to what each patient has to teach us and impart spiritually while using our expertise as a team to bring about wellness. Recovery is immensely rewarding for all involved.
Our Honors Assembly serves to recognize everyone treated here. So many people come to us following a catastrophic accident or medical event and, through diligent supportive teamwork, they walk out of our doors upon discharge. Once home, the recovery process continues and our hospital is often an integral part of this.
Countless times I run into former patients who have gone on to successfully become independent, join the workforce and enter into lasting, loving relationships. Years ago, I was part of the team treating a young man who sustained severe injuries in a car accident. After a long period of rehabilitation, he went on to return to his work as a police officer, marry and have children. He now mentors youth in the community, including my own sons.
Come join us and be inspired as you meet some amazing individuals who continue to work so hard to overcome so much. Believe me- it will be the best 90 minutes you’ve spent all year and you’ll leave a changed person.
