A Classic Is Always A Classic
November 4, 2014Thanks to all for a very successful 2014 Classic Race
Helen Hayes Hospital would like to thank the hundreds of racers and race supporters who joined us on October 5th and made the 2015 Helen Hayes Hospital Classic Race and Fun Run an incredible success. The Herculean efforts of so many people not only made for an exciting and inspiring race day, but also raised $60,000 to benefit the Helen Hayes Hospital Foundation’s mission to support outstanding rehabilitation programs and services at our hospital.
In its heyday—before a 17-year-hiatus that began in 1997—the HHH Classic was a highly-anticipated annual race which brought together hundreds of top athletes and amateur racers of all abilities. This year, the participation of over 400 runners, handcyclists and wheelchair racers is a testament to the continued draw of a race which fosters friendly competition for an extremely worthy cause. It was especially wonderful to see so many familiar faces- form racers of years ago, to former patients, community members and friends of HHH.
In addition to the racers and their supporters, there were scores of others behind the scenes who made the 2014 Classic Race a huge success. We’d like to give our thanks to the wonderful volunteers who made the race run smoothly; from manning the water stops to handing out race t-shirts and awards. Tremendous thanks are also in order to the team, led by HHH PT Michelle Caravano, who organized and ran our first ever Family Fun Activity Zone. Visitors had a fantastic time partaking in the games, crafts, and other fun activities on the hospital grounds and it was all thanks to the many volunteers who donated their time (special thanks to the dunk tank volunteers!).
We’d also like to acknowledge the Stony Point Police Department, the Haverstraw Town Police Department, and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office for the important role they played directing traffic on race day. Many thanks are due to these officers as well as to our community for keeping the racers safe on our roads.
Enormous thanks must be given to the Classic Race Committee at HHH, led by Race Director Matthew Castelluccio. The Race Committee recognized the importance of bringing the Classic Race back to our community and worked extremely hard to do so. The late Niles M. Davies, a great supporter of the Classic Race to whom this year’s race was dedicated, would surely have been proud of their efforts.
Finally- the race would not have been possible without the encouragement and generosity of our Sponsors. We thank each and every one of them for their confidence in the event and for making it all possible.
Thank you all for everything you did to make the 2014 HHH Classic Race and Fun Run a successful event for our community and our hospital. We hope to see you all at next year’s race, tentatively scheduled for Sunday, October 4, 2015!
