Physical Rehabilitation Hospital’s Skilled Nursing Facility and Transitional Care Unit Recognized for Continued Excellence in Patient Care

WEST HAVERSTRAW, NY (October 8, 2026) – The New York State Department of Health’s Helen Hayes Hospital announced today that its Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) and Transitional Care Unit (TCU) have once again received five-star ratings and distinction as high-performing nursing homes from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

This continued five-star designation through CMS’ Five-Star Quality Rating System recognizes the Hospital’s long-standing commitment to excellence in inpatient subacute physical rehabilitation. Both the SNF and TCU earned five stars across all assessed categories—health inspections, staffing, and quality measures—underscoring the exceptional quality of care provided by the dedicated professionals who serve the hospital’s patients. Both services also received a high-performing nursing home emblem on CMS’ website, which acknowledges facilities that perform much above average, have fewer safety violations, higher staffing levels, and meet other quality standards.

“Our long-held distinction as a five-star CMS facility reflects the high standards of care our hospital upholds every day,” said Scott Guevin, Chief Executive Officer of Helen Hayes Hospital. “Our Skilled Nursing Facility and Transitional Care Unit remain focused on providing safe, effective, patient-centered rehabilitation that helps our patients achieve meaningful progress and return to greater independence.”

The CMS Five-Star Quality Rating System was developed to help patients and caregivers assess the quality of nursing home services throughout the nation. Individual facility ratings can be accessed in detail on CMS’ Nursing Home Compare website: www.medicare.gov/nursinghomecompare.

Helen Hayes Hospital’s SNF and TCU offer short-term, comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation with the goal of helping patients return home safely and at their highest level of independence. The services are well suited for those recovering from hip or knee replacement surgery, fractures, orthopedic or neurological conditions, exacerbation of chronic illness, medical deconditioning, and more.
