Adapted Awareness Day Scheduled at Ski Mountain

February 16, 2010

The Helen Hayes Hospital Adapted Sports & Rec Program, in conjunction with Belleayre Mountain, will host an Adapted Awareness Day at the ski center on Sunday February 28, 2010. The event will take place at both lodges at Belleayre.

Staff from Helen Hayes Hospital will be promoting their Adapted Sports & Rec Program, which enables individuals with physical disabilities to participate in competitive and non-competitive activities. The program serves individuals with spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, amputation, multiple sclerosis and other disabling conditions, offering downhill skiing, sailing, kayaking and other sports. The event on February 28 will also raise funds to help support the adapted skiing program at Belleayre.

In addition, adapted skiing workshops will be available free of charge through the hospital’s Adapted Sports & Rec program during the Adapted Awareness Day celebration. For additional information or to pre-register for the workshops, call 845-786-4950.
