Volunteer Corp Presents Over 40k In Grants To Hospital Services

November 11, 2015

The Volunteer Corp at Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw, NY provides invaluable support to the hospital through the donation of their time and fundraising efforts to support numerous rehabilitation services and programming. These funds are raised through the HHH Gift Shop and other fundraising initiatives.

This year, the Volunteers have selected several major hospital initiatives to fund, donating over $40,000 to various departments within the hospital. These funds have allowed for a number of rehab technology purchases, including: iPads to be used during physical, speech, and recreational therapy sessions; a MusicGlove device, which is used to increase fine motor skills and strengthen the hands of individuals who have suffered a stroke or other condition that affects hand movement; and The Learning Curve Software, which is designed to teach children with disabilities to use eye tracking technology for communication. The hospital was also able to purchase three switch adapted telephones with remote controls which will allow paralyzed inpatients to place phone calls independently.

Additionally, Volunteer Corp funds enabled the purchase of The C.A.R.E. Channel for our patient rooms and atrium. This channel provides 24 hours of programing designed to promote relaxation, improve restlessness, reduce anxiety, and enhance pain management protocols. Volunteer funds were also earmarked to support our Adaptive Sports & Recreation Program, our numerous support groups, and the HHH Performing Arts Program, which provides high-quality live entertainment to our patients and visitors.

Helen Hayes Hospital is extremely grateful to our Volunteers for their tireless fundraising efforts and support of the hospital. If you are interested in learning more about Volunteer opportunities at HHH, please call 845-786-4989.
