2016 Dates Announced For Helen Hayes Hospital Osteoporosis Wellness Program
November 11, 2015Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw, NY will offer the 8-session Osteoporosis Wellness Program “Strong Bones, Stronger Me” monthly in 2016. The program, which will also run in December of this year, serves to empower individuals with osteoporosis to manage the condition at a physical level, employing exercise to maintain and improve bone health.
Fractures will occur in one in two women with osteoporosis and one in four men with the condition. Devised and led by a licensed Physical Therapist, Strong Bones, Stronger Me is an evidence-based program that seeks to lower an osteoporosis patient’s risk by providing participants with strength and flexibility exercises specifically tailored to improving bone health. Program highlights include:
- Flexibility Exercises
- Strength Training
- Balance Exercises
- Body Mechanics Training
- Diet and Nutrition Education
Each one-month 8-session program meets on Tuesdays and Thursday from 11:30am – 12:30pm at Helen Hayes Hospital. Upcoming program start dates are:

The Osteoporosis Center at Helen Hayes Hospital is the headquarters for the New York State Osteoporosis Prevention and Education Program (NYSOPEP). The mission of NYSOPEP is to educate all New Yorkers about the causes of this bone condition, the importance of preventative measures and early detection, and the variety of treatments available. Visitors to the Osteoporosis Center at HHH can benefit from bone density testing, physician evaluations and counseling, exercises classes, support groups, and educational opportunities.
