April 22, 2015

Carol Guarino, MS,RD,CDE, is the primary clinical dietitian on unit 3B. Carol was encouraged by Dr. Marjorie King to join the American Association of Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Shortly after joining, Carol was asked to serve as the nutrition expert on the association’s committee to review questions to be included on the association’s certification examination. Carol participated on this committee in June of last year.

Shortly after participating on the certification exam committee, Carol was asked to participate in a presentation at the organization’s annual meeting in Denver, Colorado in September, 2014. Carol was a co-presenter and facilitator for the “Beans, Greens and Grains Culinary Workshop.” Carol participated as a lecturer at the workshop. Following the lecture, her group was given full access to the kitchen facilities at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel. The group prepared various recipes that were in keeping with the theme of the workshop. The hotel’s culinary staff graciously set a formal “china and crystal” table setting where the group enjoyed the fruits of their labor.

Carol has been invited back as a presenter at the organization’s 2015 annual meeting, where she will speak on the topic of Linking Nutrition Resources to Nutrition Education in Cardiac Rehabilitation.

Carol is a valuable member of the Dietary Clinical team at Helen Hayes Hospital where she shares her vast knowledge and expertise in Nutrition with the patients and other clinical staff on a daily basis.
